Bowls Report 21 November
Our opening focus for this week’s article is to congratulate Tom Englezos on his participation in the Nationals 2025 Australian Seniors Side Championships in Tasmania on the 15th – 18th of November, representing Victoria. The Victorian team placed third and the rink Englezos participated in won 5 out of the 7 competed games. A great effort by our local bowler.

Western District Playing Area Report for Round 5
The Makos compiled another capable win to their total, defeating Warrnambool Blue 73 to 49. Mick Sloper’s team consisting of John Wallis, Chris Bramley & Jason Dean had the closest contest resulting in a draw with John Klein, 20 all. Paul Cameron, Graeme Solly, Chris Fleming & Kim Overall came up against Shane Dalton winning 25 to 14. Meanwhile Nick Seekamp, Peter Cottier, Dean Beckman & Tony Jackson had a win with a similar parity, 28 to 15, against Roger Hill. Round 6 see the Makos in top ladder position travel to Warrnambool to play City Red who are close on their heels in second spot.
Far Western Playing Area Weekend Report for Round 7
Round 7 saw a clean sweep of wins in all 3 Divisions.
Division 1 travelled to the water tower to compete against Portland Blue, producing an overall win of 68 shots to 51. Ian Grayson, Greg Dobbins, Simon Hein & Darren Body combined well to ink up a score of 23 shots to Des Hein and team 15. A similar score line was being produced on the nearby rink with Chris Elford, Des Pitts, Ken Evans & Leanne Evison creating 24 winning shots to Andrew Small 13. The closest game of the division belonged to Paul Soffe, Paul Bentham, Steve Turner & Jan deZoete who went down 21 to 23 against the Alan Warburton team. The team were 0 to 12 down just prior to the game break, however persistent bowling and determinedness by all 4 team members, saw them claw their way back into the game, creating a flurry of interest for spectators. Next week’s game is against top positioned Heywood on their turf. Memorial are currently 4th.
Division 2 Red travelled to Casterton and had a win 47 to 33. Donald McGowan, Jim Bryden, Geoff Sturzaker & June Leahy had a doubles win; 30 to 15 against Neil Shannon and team. Meanwhile Ted Leahy, Ian Merrett, Richard Matley & Rob Abschinski had a close scenario going down by one shot against Wayne Southern; 17 to 18.
Memorial Blue played against Macarthur and snuck over the line by two shots, overall score recorded 37 to 35. Both rinks had close games. Gerry Watt, Tony Hogan, Terry Barclay & Wendy Gray combined well to produce a three shot win; total scores 19 to 16. Trevor Wynniat, Pearl Kitt, Meredith Fredericks & Robyn McCabe had a closer margin, unfortunately a one shot deficit, the card finally recording 18 shots to Clifton Tonnissen 19.
Division 3 were up against Grangeburn, and won in a close contest, 41 to 39. Both rinks won by one mere shot. Robert Liddle, Gary Milich, Terry Stanley & Andy Whiddon 24 shots to Allan Roll and team 23. Peter Fasoli, Kathryn Beauglehole, Peter Sierat & David Attrill combined to produce 17 shots to Keith Dunn 16.
FWPA Midweek produced two out of 4 wins for Round 7:
Division 1 had a tough match at Hamilton going down 62 to 67.
John Wallis, Dean Beckman, Rick Fallaize & Leanne Evison fought off a persistent second half by the Norm Pech team, crossing the line 22 to 21. Peter Cottier, Des Pitts, Ted Leahy & Kerry Cottier went down in a close game compiling 18 shots to Peter Clapham’s team 21. Meanwhile Ian Grayson, Chris Elford, Jan deZoete & June Leahy fought well against a consistent side to produce a score card of 22 against Alison East’s team 25. Next week is Memorial v Heywood, first against second.
Division 2 had a solid win against Macarthur, the score card reading 50 to 26.The closest win of the day was Meredith Fredericks, Mike Rentoul, Pearl Kitt & Kathryn Beauglehole with 22 shots to Beverly Bourke’s team 18. Meanwhile Gary Milich led Trevor Wynniat, Trevor Cosgrove & Robyn McCabe to a sound win, 28 against Carole Dunn 18.
Division 3 Red played Hamilton with overall scores indicating a loss, 35 to 40. Ian Benbow, Heather Liddle & Les Thomas came away with a draw of 18 shots all against Malcolm Brinkmann and team. Meanwhile Julie McInnis, Rob Liddle & Barry Ivory went down 17 to Glenda Parker 22.
Division 3 Blue had another strong win this week against Grangeburn Blue: 59 shots to 27. Peter Fasoli, Jack Rees & Marg Milich combined well to produce a confident win of 31 shots to Ann Rentsch’s team. Ian Merrett, Jude Fasoli & Kevin McGrath rolled down 28 scoring shots to Lesley Moller and team 16.
