Western District Playing Area Report for Round 7

The Makos took to the road to play against Timboon and were able to come away with a win under tricky conditions, combating a fast green and strong wind, 65 to 55. Tom Englezos, John Wallis, Chris Bramley & debutant Kerrrie Cottier met some tough opposition in the Arthur Finch team going down 12/22. Paul Cameron, Graeme Solly, Des Pitts & Chris Fleming came away with a 10 shot advantage, 28/18. Meanwhile Nick Seekamp, Peter Cottier, Ian Grayson & Tony Jackson replicated the ten shot win, 25/15. Round  8 sees the Makos playing at home against Mortlake Blue. Both teams are 3rd and 4th placing on the ladder with the Makos sitting 63 points to Mortlake 62. Make your way to the decking to observe a game of reckoning.

Far Western Playing Area Weekend Report for Round 9

Division 1 played at home against Grangeburn in what was an extremely tight contest. Scores going our way 57/55. Chris Elford, Steve Turner, Jan DeZoete & Leanne Evison had to work hard to keep Leah McCabes rink from closing in. Ted Leahy, Ken Evans, Geoff Sturzaker worked determinedly to change a significant deficit into a three shot win, snatching the overall lead for Memorial on the last end.  Tony Hogan, Darren Body, Jason Dean & Rob Abschinski went down 16/23 in a game that ebbed and flowed. Division 1 are currently sitting fourth on the ladder.

Division 2 saw the home derby Memorial rematch, this time however it was the Red team taking the honors over the Blues 48/32. Ronny Robinson, Robyn McCabe, Kathryn Beauglehole & Joan Englezos played well to produce a win over Trevor Wynniat, Pearl Kitt, Jack Rees & Mike Rentoul 24/17. Don McGowan, Jim Bryden, Wendy Gray & June Leahy had the upper hand over Gary Milich, Ian Merrett, Allan Simpson & Terry Barclay 24/15. There are some interesting match ups for Round 10: Memorial Red are third placed on the ladder, up against second placed Hamilton Green, whilst Blue are in fifth spot and match up against Coleraine fourth.

Division 3 were also on the home turf taking on Grangeburn Blue, the visiting team too strong, scores 22/46. Peter Fasoli, Huon Beauglehole,  Judy Fasoli & Helen Hume were up against Brian Kavanagh’s team who were far too strong on the day, 9/28. On the nearby rink Robert Liddle, Terry Stanley, Peter Sierat & Andy Whiddon were involved in a closer tussle going down 13/18. Memorial currently sit sixth on the ladder.

FWPA Midweek produced another clean sweep of wins in all three divisions for Round 9:

Division 1 travelled to Grangeburn and produced a confident compilation of 72/43 shots. Tom Englezos, Ian Grayson, Jan De Zoete & June Leahy came from behind in a steady application of pressure and producing some handy multiples in the second half, scores 21/19 against Wayne Rigby’s team. Graeme Solly and his team of Des Pitts, debutante Trevor Cosgrove & Kerrie Cottier produced a consistent display of bowls against Leah McCabe’s team, winning 30/13. Meanwhile John Wallis, Chris Elford, Leanne Evison & Rick Fallaize won 28/11 against Trevor Partington and team. Division 1 are currently holding top position on the ladder.

Division 2 amassed a solid score of 49 to Hamilton 25. Gerry Watt, Meredith Fredericks, Kathryn Beauglehole & Mike Rentoul had a close start but were able to draw away as the game progressed rolling down 20 shots to Peter Moller and team 14. Nearby Gary Milich, Trevor Wynniat, Robyn McCabe & Barry Ivory steadily added to their score with confident bowls, winning 29/11 against the opposition Jim Nichol and team. Division 2 are holding top position on the ladder, sharing equal points with Portland Gold. This is the match up for Round 10.

Division 3 Red played at home against Grangeburn Red, with a convincing winning score of 58/23. Ian Benbow, Les Thomas & Heather Liddle won with a strong accumulation of 24 shots to 10 against Philip Forsyth and team. Meanwhile Julie McInnis, Rob Liddle & Marg Milich produced great bowls to win 34/13 against David Coote. Division 3 Red are placed 3rd on the ladder

Division 3 Blue also hosted a home game against near neighbours Heywood. The number 58 was replicated again against Heywood’s score of 30. Peter Fasoli, Pearl Kitt & Jack Rees were a force to be reckoned with taking the game 33/9 against George Pavlovski’s team. Ian Merrett, Jude Fasoli & Kevin McGrath were instead involved in a close tussle finally winning 25/21 against Ron Langford and team. Blue are currently holding top spot on the ladder.
