Bowls Report

The Makos travelled to Warrnambool to compete in the first round 1 of the WDPA against the Dennington Jets 1. This they did in definitive style coming away with an overall win of 79 to 36. Michael Sloper made his debut for the Makos as skip with Englezos, Bramley & Wallis as support etching up 23 shots to 11. Paul Cameron was another debut skip steering Solly, Cottier & Overall to a win of 28 to 13. Clayton Holcombe had Fleming, Jackson & Hoggan working together to produce the winning score of 28 to 12. Friday evening at 6PM they travel to Warrnambool to meet Terang.

FWPA weekend pennant Round 3 saw three wins from four across the three divisions. Division 1 travelled to Balmoral and took the win 64 to 42. I Grayson’s squad penned in 24 shots to Brody 10, C Elford put down 18 successful shots to Simon’s 10, whilst P Bentham came up square with Trotman 22 to all. Memorial are third on the ladder.

Division 2 Memorial Blue took the honours against Coleraine 46 to 30. Both skips produced the same winning score on the two rinks; T Wynniat 23 to Woolley 17, G Watt 23 to Armstrong 13. Memorial Red didn’t have the same fortune going down to Hamilton Green 26 to 47. D McGowan put up 8 shots to Spiller 27 whilst the J deZoete rink went down with a fine margin of 2. Final scores on the card were deZoete 18 to Forsyth 20. Memorial Blue are holding second position on the ladder, whilst Red are seventh.

Division 3 continued on their winning way with a competent win over Dartmoor, 65 to 20. T Stanley amassed 38 shots to Holmes 10 and the P Fasoli card read 27 to Kerr 10. Memorial hold top position on the ladder.

In the FWPA midweek pennant Division 1, it was a battle of the closest teams on the highway Memorial v Heywood. In a highly contested match Memorial scraped across the line with an overall score of 62 to 59. Winning only 1 of the 3 rinks, it was the team led by T Englezos who provided the buffer, scoring 24 to D Moore 15. D Pitts were slow to start but were able to shorten the gap by the 21 ends, 22 shots to 20. J Wallis and team relinquished their half term lead to go down 18 to 22. Despite going down 2 out of 3, Memorial were able to get the points to take on top spot on the ladder.

Division 2 playing at Coleraine won 46 to 34. G Millich and team were strong competitors putting up 36 shots to the oppositions 12. On the nearby rink M Fredericks and team compiled 10 shots on the card to 22. Memorial is only 1 point off being fourth on the ladder.

In Division 3 Memorial Blue travelled to Casterton and were involved in a tight contest winning 42 to 41. P Fasoli was the winning rink putting down 22 successful shots to Lucas 13. Meanwhile the other Fasoli counterpart, J Fasoli’s rink, scored 20 to Southern’s team 28. Memorial Red played at home and were defeated by their adversaries Macarthur 32 to 36. Rink scores were; I Benbow 23 to 16 and J McInnis 9 to 20. Memorial Blue are third on the ladder whilst Red are sixth.
