Bowls report

WDPA competitors took on Round 2 with the Makos producing two out of two wins, the latter against Terang, this being held at City Memorial on Friday evening. Overall scores on the day were Makos 82, Terang 46. Paul Cameron, Graeme Solly, Peter Cottier & Kim Overall put up 18 shots going down to A Rees 24. Clayton Holcombe combining with Nick Seekamp, Brent Bulger & Tony Jackson had a solid win against D Delaney, 34 to 12. Meanwhile Mick Sloper’s team of Tom Englezos, Chris Brambley & John Wallis was also in good form crossing the line 30 to 10 against B Stonehouse. The Makos meet the Koroit Saints at the tank in the up and coming Round 3.

FWPA Midweek produced two solid wins in Division 1&2 and a draw in the home derby:

The game of  round 4 this week was the home derby between Memorial Blue and Memorial Red with final scores 42 all after 42 ends. Memorial Red with Rob Liddle and Les Thomas under the guidance of Skip Ian Benbow compiled a score of 34 shots to 9, despite all efforts from Jude Fasoli, Rosie Sturzaker & Andy Whiddon. On the nearby rink Memorial Blue took the honors with Peter Fasoli, Jack Rees & Joan Englezos creating a total of 33 to the 8 shots recorded by Red, Julie McInnes, Heather Liddle & Kevin William. Round 5; Red V Portland, Blue V Macarthur.

Division 1 Memorial welcomed Grangeburn, winning with 90 shots to 43. John Wallis, Dean Beckman, Rick Fallaize totalled 29 shots to Wayne Rigby and team 19. Graeme Solly guided Kes Pitts, Tony Jackson & Kerry Cottier to compile 41 shots to 7 against Leah McCabe’s team. Tom Englezos, Ian Grayson, Jan deZoete & June Leahy fought off a determined Trevor Partington team 20 to 17. Round 5 see the team travel to Balmoral.

Division 2 had a comfortable win over Casterton putting up 48 scorers to 27. Meredith Fredericks, Mike Rentoul, Ian Merret & Kathryn Beauglehole combined to produce a total of 20 shots to Nancy Sharam’s 15. On the partnering rink Gerry Watt led Trevor Wynniat, Robyn McCabe & Trevor Cosgrove to a winning score of 28 to 12 shots by Teresa Sealey and team. Round 5 will see the team travelling to Penshurst.

FWPA Weekend saw scant wins, Division 2 Memorial Red producing the only:

Division 1 in Round 4 saw Memorial battling against a very determined Portland Gold who were able to produce a convincing win. Overall scores were Memorial 44 to Portland Gold 79. Paul Bentham, Paul Soffe, Steve Turner & Jason Dean worked together in tricky conditions to compile 11 shots to Lindsay Graur & team 28. John Pye’s team replicated Graur’s 28 against Chris Elford, Des Pitts, Dean Beckman & the Ken Evans combination’s 14. Meanwhile Ian Grayson, Greg Dobbin, Simon Hein & Darren Body had the closest score card with 19 shots against Mick Jennings and team 23. Round 5 see Memorial welcome Penshurst.

Division 2 Red defeated Portland 47 to 27. Ron Robinson led Jan deZoete, Richard Mately & June Leahy in a confident win putting down 30 scoring shots to Reg Alexander and team 11 shots. Don McGowan, Tony Hogan, Geoff Sturzaker & Ian Merrett were in the tight match up, crawling across the line with a mere one shot. Scores were 17 to the 16 shots put up by Allan Litowschenko’s team.

Division 2 Blue were in a close contest with Casterton coming away with 41 shots to the opposition 45. Gerry Watt had the winning rink on the day, combining with Terry Barclay, Rob Abschinski & Tink Imbi to produce 22 shots in a tight contest to Wayne Southern’s rink 20. Trevor Wynniat, Pearl Kitt, Meredith Federicks & Robyn McCabe produced 19 shots to go down to Garry Russell 25.

Division 3 went down to Hamilton Green 31 to 38. Terry Stanley’s rink of Jude Fasoli, Peter Sierat & Andy Whiddon produced a draw, 16 all against Ray Downes. Peter Fasoli, Rob Liddle, Kathryn Beauglehole & Wendy Gray took a loss 15 to 22 to Barry Dowling.

Congratulations to Chris Fleming & Jan De Zoete on winning their section in the Association Mixed Pairs played at Hamilton Bowling Club. They will play the knockout rounds on Sunday at a venue to be announced. All the best to the duo.
