Western District Playing Area Report for Round 9
Despite the Makos being denied a win by City Gold they are still holding third position on the ladder. Overall scores at the completion of the match were a close 48/54. Two of the three rinks had success on the day. Paul Cameron was able to slide across the line by one shot, supported by Graeme Solly, Chris Fleming & Kim Overall; final scorecard reading 18/17 against the Vince Moloney crew. Tom Englezos and his team of Peter Cottier, John Wallis & Chris Elford had a marginally bigger win of 18/15 against Matt Fleming and team. Mick Sloper, Nick Seekamp, Tony Jackson & Ian Grayson didn’t have the same winning fortune going down 12/22 against the Paul Symmons network. The Makos in Round 10 will now face up to Dunkeld Blue in the shark tank on Saturday at the newly arranged time of 4:00pm, and will be determined to notch a win on the board.

Before heading into the FWPA report, congratulations to Kim Overall, Tony Jackson, John Wallis and Chris Fleming on making their way into the next round of the Area singles championships to be played at Hamilton on Sunday. The men’s section is to commence at 9:15 and the women’s section games at 12:15.
Far Western Playing Area Weekend Report for Round 11
It was a bag of mixed results for Portland Memorial on the greens for Round 11
Division 1 played at home against their town counterparts Portland Gold and it proved to be a difficult day. Scores at the half time break were close to level, however Gold were hot out of the blocks and went on to produce a convincing win, 41/68. Chris Bramley, Des Pitts, Ken Evans & Leanne Evison went down to Barry Huppatz and team 15/23. A similar disparity took place on the Tony Hogan rink involving Paul Soffe, Ted Leahy & Paul Bentham going down 15/27 against Bob Bowden. Meanwhile the third rink consisting of Greg Dobbin, Dean Beckman, Simon Hein & Jason Dean put up 11 shots to Lindsay Graur 18.
Division 2 Red had the success on the day against Portland winning 48/31. Don McGowan combined with Jim Bryden, Geoff Sturzaker & June Leahy to cross the line with the winning shot, 21/20 against Peter Walsh and team. Ronny Robinson, meanwhile steered his team of Robyn McCabe, Kathryn Beauglehole & Richard Matley to a comfortable win 27/11 against Allan LItowschenko.
The Blue team playing at home went down to Casterton 40/48. Pearl Kitt, Trevor Wynniat, Meredith Fredericks and Rob Abschinski had the match of the day pulling the game to a draw with an uncanny skippers bowl by Kitt. Scores against Wayne Southern and team ending at 22 all. Gerry Watt, Gary Milich, Rod Beauglehole & Terry Barclay went down 18/26 in a tussle against Garry Russell and team.
Division 3 drew with Hamilton Green 35 all. Peter Fasoli, Ian Merrett, Judy Fasoli & Dave Atrill combined to produce a win 21/16 against Ray Downes and team. On the nearby rink Rob Liddle, Terry Stanley, Peter Sierat & Joan Englezos went down 14/19 to Barry Dowling’s combination.
Weekend pennant will break now until January 17th 2026.
FWPA Midweek pennant produced three wins and a draw for Round 11:
Division 1 travelled to the water tower and recorded a 66/41 shot win. Tom Englezos, Ian Grayson, Jan De Zoete & June Leahy were involved in a tight tussle with the scores a draw coming into the last end. Unfortunately the bowls didn’t turn their way going down by three shots 14/17 to Heather Burgess and team. Graeme Solly, Des Pitts, Ted Leahy & Tony Jackson compiled 26 shots to Linday Gruar’s combination 11. The John Wallis rink of Dean Beckman, Rick Fallaize & Leanne Evison put down 26 scoring shots to Barry Huppatz 13.
Division 2 travelled to Grangeburn and gained the win 40/38 in a close matchup. Gerry Watt, Meredith Fredericks, Kathryn Beauglehole & Mike Rentoul went down by a mere one shot 21/22 against Wendy Colcott’s team. Nearby Gary Milich, Trevor Wynniat, Trevor Cosgrove & Robyn McCabe also had a close match up finally winning 19/16 against Fred Hardy.
Division 3 Red travelled to Casterton and came away with a 41 all scoreline. Ian Benbow, Les Thomas & Heather Liddle had a win against Gary Russell 28/14. Meanwhile Julie McInnis, Rob Liddle & Barry Ivory notched up 13 to Wayne Southern’s team 27.
Division 3 Blue defeated Dartmoor 53/39. Peter Fasoli, Pearl Kitt & Margaret Milach crossed the line with 34 convincing shots to Val Hutchison’s team 16. Ian Merrett, Jude Fasoli & Kevin McGrath went down 19/23 against Elaine Jones and team.
Midweek Pennant will now pause for the Christmas break and resume on 20th January 2026.
